CALL A SPADE A SPADE

OWING UP TO PAST MISTAKES A MUST

I remember President Bill Clinton leaving office with his head held high and bequeathing our country a budget surplus. No big deal, right?

Then 9/11, Afghanistan, Iraqi war (on terror), tax breaks (including for those making more than eight figures). We do not need to pay for things as we go because we are the only superpower on earth?Suddenly, since 2008, our deficit seems to be spiraling out of control. How and when did our America the Beautiful set off for a one-way trip to hell-in-a-hand-basket?

Many conservatives (political, media, social) want me to believe that our current president’s inauguration was when everything began going awry.

Don’t try to bully me into taking the Republican party line. For instance, the front runner in the Republican presidential primary has put it in writing that Medicare is unconstitutional, and he states in “Fed Up” that Social Security should be privatized. How can anyone vote for Governor Rick Perry? Republicans believe that Affordable Health Care is unconstitutional. Our Congressional representatives need to fix Medicare and Social Security so that future generations will enjoy these programs for decades to come.

Now when the ones responsible for our nation’s mess step forward and admit their past failures and political indiscretions, I will start listening to their ideas and proposed policies.

In the meantime, stop throwing so much mud that traction cannot begin to remedy our nation’s ills.
