WE’RE LIVING IN A GOP ECONOMY

Republicans are basing their entire 2012 election strategy on pinning the blame for the residual effects of their own failed policies on President Obama. They repeatedly claim that President Obama’s economic policies have failed.

Obama’s policies weren’t ever really enacted. Thanks to the GOP’s strategy of sustained hostage taking over nearly ever single piece of legislation, the GOP still owns our economic policy.

Don’t believe me? Well let’s review the record:

Look at total government spending: federal, state and local. Adjusted for population growth and inflation, such spending has recently been falling at a rate not seen since the demobilization that followed the Korean War.

How is that possible? Isn’t Mr. Obama a big spender? Actually, no; there was a brief burst of spending in late 209 and early 2010 as the Bush stimulus kicked in, but that boost is long behind us. Since then it has been all down hill. Cash-strapped state and local governments have laid off teachers, firefighters and police officers, and federal government has laid off many workers. Meanwhile, unemployment benefits have been trailing off, even though unemployment remains extremely high.

And let’s look at what Republicans and Tea Party Republicans have done with their time in Congress. You’ll recall they made their big sweep in 2010 on the promise to create jobs.

Yes, we’re living in a GOP economy. In November we can change this dire situation.
