The presidential race is long and grueling, and a year’s worth of stump and debates is bound to produce a few gaffes.

Still, when candidate Mitt Romney was asked if he’s support a ban on assault weapons during last week’s town hall, his response was bizarre by any measure.

He ended up making a speech about his belief in the importance of two-parent families, and if we may follow the long winding road to the end of his tortuous reasoning, he implied that such households would produce a less-violent culture and fewer murders, and that in this two-parent paradise, we wouldn’t need to worry about banning assault weapons.

Which brings us to:

Dylan Klebold

Eric Harris

Seung-Hui Cho

Jared Lee Loughner

James Holmes

These are our country’s most notorious rampage killers in the years since 1999.

All used automatic, semi-automatic or extended-magazine weapons to kill multiple people.

All were raised in two-parent homes.

When apprehended, Holmes had an AR-15 rifle, 12-gauge pump shotgun, two .40-caliber machine pistols, 6,000 rounds of ammo0, 350 shotgun shells, gas canisters, and explosives.

He also had body armor, a ballistic helmut and a throat protector. Just in case he ran into anyone else from a two-parent family?

Mitt, what does a two-parent family have to do with banning assault weapons?
