The extended unemployment safety net in our democracy faces a dilemma.

These benefits were cut December 31, 2013, but the U.S. Senate voted to extend long-term unemployment benefits; however, it is doubtful that the U.S. House of Representatives will do the same. There is a way to solve this problem.

De we as a nation have a right at some point to insist that people who have been unemployed for some extended time accept public service workif they are to continue to receive government unemployment checks?

The Civilian Conservation Corps of the 1930s built roads, public buildings and schools. This should be a model for work by people receiving extended unemployment benefits.

Contact your congressmen and let them know work never hurt anyone.
