Police Up Against Black Social Problems

Posted on July 13, 2016

I’ve been around family and friends in law enforcement, and one of my best friends, a Kansas City police officer, was killed in the line of duty.

There’s much I don’t know about police and black relations. But I can tell you all police officers tolerate a ton of disrespect from many people they question, especially those who don’t work for a living, who have poor communication skills, who don’t bother to educate themselves, and who haven’t yet accumulated the wisdom that comes even from 30 years of life experience.

Black men and boys seem to believe that the best way to deal with white police is to run away from them. Today police officers face people on drugs, selling drugs and carrying weapons. It is a dangerous profession.

And fragmentary videos don’t always foster truthful conclusions about anything. Police officers have families who worry about them and want them to come home safely.

I would like to see more editorial content on television and in newspapers illuminating the other side of those stories about police and black relations.
