Even Real News Can Be Fake

Posted on May 16, 2017

Looking at news sometimes it is difficult to know what is real and what is fabricated, and to know the difference actually matters.

We are all entitled to our own opinions, but we are not entitled to change facts.

People of good faith and inquisitive minds can transcend their biases, and reach across the intellectual and emotional chasms to find facts and truth.

Until recently I never thought about whether there really is such a thing as “fake news,” or whether it is all a matter of the personal prism of perception and naivete.

We have seen “fake news” on politically alined television stations and social news media.

But when I learned that FBI Director James Comey had been fired by President Trump, and I found out the justification for it from the White House, I realized that we truly are wallowing in an era of falsehoods.

I look about and see many people saying and believing fake news whether it is about immigrants, unborn children, climate change, etc. I just don’t let stupid talk and signs do my heavy moral lifting.

And we will continue to see the Donald make PR missteps and falsehoods.
