Don’t Take Our Dreamers

In an increasingly divisive political environment, we need to support and protect our young Hispanic young people who also happen to be DREAMers.

DREAMers are young people who came to the United States with their parents as children, and though previously undocumented, are able to apply for authorization to attend college and work under President  Barack Obama’s executive order.

Approximately 95 percent of DREAMers are either in school or working, according to the Center of American Progress.

Yet, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program will end in six months unless Congress passes the DREAM Act of 2017. The treat to end DACA comes from President Donald Trump who wants to end this program.

Revoking the DACA program will reduce our national labor force and cause devastating impact on business and schools. There are many DREAMers living in Texas who want to help with the clean-up from Hurricane Harvey, and they should not be threatened with deportation.

We strongly urge all members of Congress to support the bipartisan DREAM Act of 2017, a bill that provides permanent protection for more than 800,000 young Hispanics who have been temporarily protected by the DACA policy.

You may weigh in on this issue by going to dreamers.fwd.us for ways to voice your support, and please call your Congressional representative directly.

Don’t deport our DREAMERS.
